As we head towards the end of an exciting and eventful first half of 2021, Blockdaemon is delighted to welcome Ryan Waites as our new Director of Platform Engineering.

Ryan is a highly experienced engineer and systems architect, with a wide range of skills from a background in the financial technology industry. Ryan holds a BSc in Information Technology, graduating from his local university, the University of Sunderland.Ryan joins us from his former role as Lead Data Architect at Atom bank, the UK’s first app based digital bank.
During his time with Atom, Ryan was responsible for leading a number of key programmes and stakeholders. This included managing internal and external developer teams, migrating the company’s core infrastructure from a bare metal to a cloud based solution and applying the highest quality data standards to a central data pipeline which democratized the access to data throughout the organization, improving business and customer intelligence.
When asked about what he is looking forward to most in working with Blockdaemon, Ryan replied: “I’m excited to join such a fast-growing startup, where every individual is responsible and accountable for driving the business forward. In such an environment, one’s skills and experience can be applied to many different areas and across different teams. I’ve had the privilege of working with a range of cloud native technologies and had the ability to apply modern software engineering practices to solve non-trivial industry problems, I cannot wait to start applying these internally. I’m also thrilled to work with such a diverse team of people as well, with everyone being from such a wide spectrum of backgrounds and career paths globally. Even though blockchain is still a relatively new industry, Blockdaemon has made great strides in connecting the world to blockchain technology and I am excited to be a part of the journey. The opportunities that blockchain presents are endless.
”Ryan’s key points of focus for his role in Blockdaemon will be leading the platform engineering teams, including enhancing Blockdaemon’s APIs and partnering with the Director of Protocol Engineering, expanding Blockdaemon’s marketplace offerings (introducing new addons, services and protocols).
As Director of Platform Engineering, Ryan will be focusing on improving the operational efficiency of the platform engineering teams, with an emphasis on automation, optimization and innovation. Ryan’s hire as Director of Platform Engineering comes at an important time in the history of Blockdaemon, as we continue to grow our headcount as a distributed global team producing industry leading blockchain infrastructure products and services.
