Blockdaemon has successfully completed the Node Operator Risk Standard (NORS) certification, affirming that its Ethereum validator operations meet enterprise-grade standards for risk management, operational security, and validator reliability.

The Node Operator Risk Standard (NORS) is the first formal, third-party-attested certification framework built specifically for Ethereum node operators. NORS establishes rigorous, objective criteria for how validator infrastructure should be designed, secured, and operated at institutional scale.

NORS certification requires a passing assurance report from a NORS Qualified Assessor, conducted in accordance with attestation standards established by the AICPA, the same standards that underpin SOC 1 and other widely recognized compliance frameworks. This means institutions evaluating staking providers can rely on NORS the same way they rely on established enterprise certifications.

As of May 15, 2026, Blockdaemon's control activities have been assessed as suitably designed to fulfill the NORS Control Objectives, as they pertain to its Ethereum validator operations utilizing Distributed Validator Technology.

What Is NORS?

The Node Operator Risk Standard, or NORS, is a certification framework for Ethereum node operator risk management. It is designed to assess the operational security and reliability of Ethereum validator infrastructure.

NORS gives institutional stakers a consistent framework for evaluating node operators. Its risk control matrix defines control objectives, testing procedures and evidence requirements across key areas of validator operations.

Blockdaemon was also part of the industry group that supported the launch and development of NORS. As outlined previously, the standard was created to improve trust, transparency and risk management in Ethereum staking for institutions.

Why NORS Matters for Institutions

Ethereum staking depends on strong operating controls. Validator performance and client risk exposure can be affected by key management, slashing prevention, infrastructure resilience, monitoring, incident response and business continuity.

NORS makes those controls easier to assess. It gives banks, asset managers, custodians and other institutions a clearer basis for staking provider due diligence.

For Blockdaemon, the certification provides independent validation of the control environment behind core Ethereum staking operations. It supports Blockdaemon’s position as a leading institutional staking infrastructure provider with verified controls across key areas of validator risk management.

Blockdaemon's Commitment to Institutional Standards

NORS adds to Blockdaemon’s wider framework of independently verified standards and compliance controls.

This framework includes:

  • SOC 1 Type I, supporting controls relevant to financial reporting
  • SOC 2 Type II, validating the operation of security, availability and confidentiality controls over time
  • ISO 27001, supporting Blockdaemon’s information security management system
  • GDPR compliance
  • OFAC compliance, supporting sanctions-aware institutional staking operations

The Blockdaemon Trust Center provides further access to security, compliance and assurance resources.

Together, these standards provide documented assurance across financial controls, information security, operational resilience and compliance. They give institutional clients a clearer view of how Blockdaemon manages infrastructure risk.

“NORS gives institutions a clear standard for assessing Ethereum validator risk. Blockdaemon’s unqualified certification provides independent validation of our infrastructure, controls and governance, while making staking due diligence more efficient for institutional clients,” said Niall Geraghty, Blockdaemon’s Chief Information Security Officer

Conclusion

Institutional staking requires infrastructure that can be evaluated, tested and verified.

Blockdaemon’s NORS certification for Ethereum adds another independent verification to our assurance framework. It reinforces Blockdaemon’s commitment to secure, resilient and well-governed staking infrastructure for institutional clients.
