What is Canton?
Canton Network is the only public blockchain mobilizing real-world finance on-chain with privacy that works at scale. It was first developed by Digital Asset. Canton Network’s architecture is fundamentally different from any other public blockchain; it has been designed from the ground up with native institutional-grade privacy, without compromising the interoperability of public L1 chains. This keeps transactions private but still allows composable workflows. The network supports more than $6T in tokenized assets and handles about $4T in monthly U.S. Treasury repo volume.
Canton uses two kinds of operators. Validators participate in consensus related to transactions they are a party to, without viewing data they are not allowed to see. Super Validators operate and govern the Global Synchronizer, an optional decentralized service that helps different apps complete atomic actions across the network. The global synchronizer is governed by the Canton Foundation, an independent group managed by the Linux Foundation.
