Performance Report
Validator Performance & Reward Composition
Blockdaemon is a leading staking provider for institutions, offering secure, risk-mitigated rewards across more than 50 blockchain networks. Blockdaemon secures over $10 billion in staked assets and delivers 99.9% uptime. This report analyzes current Solana ecosystem trends and compares Blockdaemon's validator fleet performance with the network average.
September 2026
Blockdaemon outperformed the Solana network average for the twelfth consecutive month in September, delivering a 5.73% PRR against a 5.72% network average. Vote rewards continued their scheduled decline, MEV income eased, and fee income held steady.
September Protocol Reward Rate (PRR)
| Month | Vote (Inflation) | MEV | Fees | Blockdaemon PRR | Network PRR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| September 2026 | 4.96% | 0.22% | 0.55% | 5.73% | 5.72% |
PRR is an estimated annualized reward rate based on historical SOL-staking data and does not guarantee future results. Blockdaemon uses its own Staking Rewards Reporting to track the PRR of every SOL validator it operates. PRR is calculated each epoch using the standard APY formula: ((365 ÷ epoch days) × ⟨gross commission + fees earned⟩) ÷ (active stake). Trend includes prior months for context.
September 2026
Alpenglow, Solana's new system for agreeing on blocks, went live on testnet on September 24 and on devnet a day later. On testnet, blocks are final in a median of 54 milliseconds after a validator receives them. That beats the 150 ms goal, but it leaves out the time to spread block data, so it is not a like-for-like match. Mainnet comes after a review period, and no date is set yet. Frankendancer support ends when Alpenglow reaches mainnet, and Firedancer nodes must switch to Agave for the changeover.
What this means for institutions: settlement in a fraction of a second is now running on public test networks. Last month's October target is now open, so plan around a launch date that is not yet fixed. Blockdaemon manages all infrastructure changes on behalf of customers, including the migration, so stakers do not need to act.
Solana has cut its block time in half. A new block, called a slot, used to arrive every 400 milliseconds. The network stepped down 50 ms at a time, reaching 250 ms on September 18 and 200 ms on October 9. Each step went ahead only if blocks kept landing reliably. The total room for transactions did not change. Blocks are just smaller and come twice as often. You can watch it live.
What this means for institutions: an epoch now lasts about one day instead of two. Rewards are paid and stake turns on or off at each epoch, so both happen faster. Yearly inflation stays the same. Signed transactions now expire in about 30 seconds, down from 60, so slow approval flows should use durable nonces.
SIMD-0550 is the reward cut validators approved on August 28. It doubles how fast Solana's inflation rate falls each year, from 15% to 30%, so the 1.5% floor arrives around 2029 instead of 2032. Before it can turn on, Solana's two validator clients, Agave and Firedancer, must calculate rewards in exactly the same way. SIMD-0607 makes that happen. It replaces math that can differ slightly between computers with whole-number math that always matches. Both client teams signed off, and it was merged on September 1. The code still has to ship in Agave v4.4 and be adopted by validators before the switch can be scheduled. No date is set yet.
What this means for institutions: the cut is coming, but rewards have not changed yet. There is no sudden drop on day one. The new schedule starts at the same rate as the old one, then falls twice as fast each year. The proposal's modeling has rewards moving from 5.84% toward about 4.34% in year one. Agave v4.4 reaching mainnet is the next sign to watch.
